while we were in Paris in January, Alison took us to cos, which is basically where you would shop if you lived in France and were really cool and loved pleated cropped trousers.

cos is like a much a more awesome version of APC, or APC if APC was run by Maison Martin Margiela. its the kind of store where you walk in and want everything, absolutely everything! you run around from rack to rack, sighing and touching things, and then you feel extremely angry with yourself for spending all your money earlier in the day on fancy tea and olive oil. to make up for feeling broke, you comfort yourself by buying just one thing: a pair of navy wool tights, which incidentally, end up being the best tights you've ever worn - super cozy and super chic all at once.

cos isn't stateside yet, but like all things foreign and awesome in this tiny world (beard papa and topshop, anyone?) i'm sure it will be soon. until then, i'm treating my navy tights with kid gloves.

Hello, I am back.

I've been on hiatus from this blog, but you know I just can't stay away too long.

What's been happening? Well, lots. For one, can you believe I went to Paris for 10 days and didn't say a damn thing about it on here when I came back?

To make up for it, please enjoy these photos. I took these while we were up in my old hood in the 18th.

The best parts of the trip, besides eating croissants and tarts?

it was a good, good time. cold, but so lovely.

on Tuesday I take my final xray and get to take the brace off, officially (fingers crossed)

pencil skirts don't work with a full leg cast
there is calcium in sardines, peanut butter and broccoli
most people are lovely, truly

KH told me about Fashion Gone Rogue and now it's got a hold on me with a vice grip, sort of like American Spirits and Sauvignon Blanc —I'm addicted. Fashion editorials and ads from all over the world (just an endless array of drool-worthy photos) with a clean, engaging blog format that keeps you clicking around the whole day through.
I'm particularly keen on this August 2010 story from Vogue Paris. Malgosia Bela is so pretty I can barely stand it and I want to rip those jeweled-up medals off those awesome military uniforms and make them mine, all mine. .

I'm a little obsessed with this bag, with it's supple bourbon-colored leather and professorial-safari straps. I dream of carrying it everywhere with me, from now until Christmas and beyond, mixing it with everything from plaid shirts to black dresses to jean shorts to floral skirts, and feeling mighty chic all the while.
Sadly, this bag will never be mine outside of my dreams. In reality it's a little more than one month's rent, which let's face it, is a lot. In some cities, where rent is actually reasonable, it would be more like 2 or even 3 months rent. I can't decide if that makes the cost of this bag more or less depressing. Probably more.

I've been re-reading Dave Eggers' book, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. Now everything I say and write comes out sounding like him (well, probably not as cool as him, but similar none-the-less) Even this, this little post about an unattainable Proenza Schouler bag has ended up, somehow, sounding like Dave Eggers. I like the way he writes and I like the book, but enough is enough. I must stop.

Of the many, many awful things that come along with having a broken knee, the one that I am maybe truly most sad about is that there is nothing (and I mean nothing) that I can wear that looks good with a full thigh to ankle leg cast.
Superficial, I know, and it's not to negate any of the other many horrible things (like, say, needing help with just about, ahem, everything and not being able to go anywhere, the upcoming months of rehab and worse still, the possibility of later walking w/ a limp forever and forever) but, I mean, it's just that I look forward to summer clothing all year long and now being relegated to a perpetual shorts-n-tee-shirt uniform that's seen better days seems like a personal joke from hell.
Good news is, I've got lots of time on hands to do lots of online shopping, and believe me, when this thing comes off, I'll be making multiple costume changes every day in August just to make up for lost time.
