Market!

My rainy, green view...

Despite the seemingly endless rain, I managed to have a really fantastic weekend. Thanks to my half-day Summer Friday, it felt nice and long and managed to be both relaxing and productive. A rare combination indeed!
I braved the downpour and made it to the Union Square Farmers Market on Saturday- it's so amazing! So many delicious veggies, artisan cheeses, baked goods, and beautiful plants— Bjornie even tasted his first bite of bacon. We returned loaded down with an incredible bounty of goodies, which we later turned into delicious feasts.

radishes, arugula, cheeses, mustard greens, kale, cherries, mushrooms, tomatoes, spring onions, tiny pie

Chopping!

Onions, garlic scapes, cilantro and garlic

Sauteing!

Sugar snap peas, almost ready!

Tossed with tomatoes and arugula, yum!

A delicious desert of cherries and cheese!

Thoreau!

The count-down begins: less than two weeks away!
I can't wait to sit outside surrounded by 100 acres of woods.

Billy's!

My reward for walking 50 blocks last night after going to the gym and dancing at a show (I must be hyper from this gloomy weather) was stopping at Billy's for a piece of their amazing carrot cake. It's the best carrot cake I've ever had—so good, in fact, that calling it "carrot cake" seems a terrible understatement. It has walnuts, coconut, pineapple and lemon cream cheese frosting—C'mon! Amazing Cake? Cake from Heaven? Cake of My Dreams?
I'm sorry, but Billy's puts Magnolia to shame. Don't kill me.

Saturday Candy: Yellow!

I'm trying to cheer myself up. It's rained here 16 of the last 20 days. What's the opposite of blue?

Take Ivy!

This week the Times had an article in the Fashion & Style section that would have made the 15-year-old version of myself puke. The 15-year-old version of me (short red hair, Salvation Army grandpa pants, lover of all things grunge) would have cringed at the thought of anyone considering preppy Ivy League brats fashionable. The kids I knew, the ones who shopped at Gap and played sports, were utterly repulsive to me- total conformists, with not an ounce of personal style or creativity.
Shockingly enough though, the late twenties version of me finds this look very appealing, and, (dare I say it?) even...cool. The past year or so I've really been loving the look of top-siders, stripes, cardigans and oxfords, especially when mixed together in slightly quirky ways. Maybe it's fashion fatigue, but simple and classic has started to look very refreshing.
It's so amazing how our tastes are always changing and at the same time, fashions are cycling through and back, creating this constantly evolving mass of old that suddenly looks new. That's what makes fashion so captivating for those who really love it— it's the mirror that reflects not only the times we live in, but also, if you look closely, reflects who you've been and who you were all this time.

Notes on Summer Chic, French style

Rules for how to keep your cool:

1. Bright red plus baby blue stripes always equals nautical awesomeness.

2. When in doubt, dark shades and slouchy pants scream "mystique!"

3. Why wear separates when you can don a one-piece? Roll up the sleeves, add pink shoes and go.

4. It's all in the details. An armful of bright bangles and a side braid adds instant panache to easy neutrals.

Twinkle!

How is it that every season, Twinkle by Wenlan cranks out the cutest collection ever? The prints are always amazing, the silhouettes are always wearable, and I always want everything!

These looks are Spring 09. I've seen Fall '09 and it's no slacker either. But we'll discuss that later.

Up!

I'm obsessed with up-state New York, but I think you already knew that. You probably also already know that I'm counting down til I have a spot to call my own. Give me the Hudson River Valley or the Catskills!
I guess for now, I'll have to be satisfied with quick jaunts and weekend trips, rental cars and the Metro North. Give me treeeeeees.

PS. I got to take a peak inside my dream house this weekend! It was better than imaginable, so good it caused drunken giddy feelings of euphoria and sorrow, all whilst completely sober. It's the best place ever, and that's no exaggeration. Damn you, money!
PPS. Bjornie really likes going upstate too.

An abbreviated collection of my (work) outfits in the last year, courtesy of Lucky's Cute Outfit of the Day. It is always so fun and inspiring to see what everyone around the office is wearing (and a little intimidating too!)
