Saturday Candy: Quilts!

At the thrift store or antique shop, the first thing I look for is hand-stitched vintage quilts!

Polaroids!

Okay, this is probably the coolest thing I've ever seen!
The NY Times has done it again! They've created an interactive gallery of reader submitted Polaroids- amazing!

Marais!

I love the colors on these sweet little shoes by Marais USA.

Bikinis!

Is it weird that I'm sorta excited to shop for a new bikini?

Roses!

When I moved to Williamsburg last summer, it was because I wanted a little more space and a garden, but I had no idea that I would end up with one of the biggest rose bushes I've ever seen right outside my window! It's finally bloomed and the roses are the prettiest shade of pale pink—spectacular!

Style Crush: Stevie!

It's Stevie Nick's birthday today! I saw her a few months ago when Fleetwood Mac played Madison Square Garden— I pretty much cried the whole time, and not just because I had lost my job that day. Stevie's in her sixties now, but she sounds better than ever and her style is still cool as hell.
Stevie, I'm glad you were born.

Swiss!

Why is it that other people's old vacation photos are so intriguing? I found these at a vintage shop in the East Village a few months ago. My favorite is the giant sheep statue, although I do find the girl reclining in front of the alps quite interesting as well... I'm dying to find some little square frames to put them in, so I can hang them on my walls!

Choco!

I made this insane vegan chocolate-tofu pudding over the weekend and, whoa. I substituted agave nectar for the sugar and used chipotle chile powder and lots of cinnamon. Delicious!

Mexican Chocolate Tofu Pudding

Time: 10 minutes, plus 30 minutes’ chilling

3/4 cup sugar

1 pound silken tofu

8 ounces high-quality bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, melted

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon chili powder, or more to taste

Chocolate shavings (optional).

1. In a small pot, combine sugar with 3/4 cup water; bring to a boil and cook until sugar is dissolved, stirring occasionally. Cool slightly.

2. Put all ingredients except for chocolate shavings in a blender and purée until completely smooth, stopping machine to scrape down its sides if necessary. Divide among 4 to 6 ramekins and chill for at least 30 minutes. If you like, garnish with chocolate shavings before serving.

Yield: 4 to 6 servings.

PS: I got this recipe from the NYTimes. I'm obsessed with Mark Bittman- you can see why and watch a very entertaining instructional video here.

Bag of the Week: Red Bag!

How would you like to carry a big red patent leather bag with double pockets and buckles?
I've been seeing this giant beauty everywhere, and normally I don't think I'd be into it in the least ( a little too shiny/huge/conspicuous for me) but I think it's grown on me.

Buy this bag here.

Aubrey!

So, I should be working on my final paper for my Gothic novel class, but my total immersion into the dark, the supernatural and the political unrest of the late 1700s has got me thinking of the late 1800s artist Aubrey Beardsley. I would so much rather be staring at his illustrations right now than at my not even half-finished paper...

Moss!

As you may know, I'm a sucker for anything pretty but vaguely creepy— I'd love to set my table with a mixture of these gorgeous dishes from Moss, and if I had it my way, I'd use this darling porcelain skull as a centerpiece.

Style Crush: Ali!

When I was in seventh grade, my girl friends and I watched Love Story at a sleep-over. I remember being really under-whelmed with the melodrama of the story line (I was cynical even at 13) but totally inspired by Ali McGraw's incredible collegiate style. Recently, I came across some photos of her and felt a surge of style-envy anew. Not everyone can pull-off straight jet black hair, eye brows and eyes. It's enough to make me want to give Love Story another chance, if only just for style inspiration...

Watch Love Story trailer here.

Beklina!

Have you ever been to Beklina? If I could buy everything there, believe me, I would.

And, don't forget to stop by their Paper & Nest section, where you can get cool things for your home, like this lovely Alta Walker painting (below).

Shop Beklina here.

More!

The spring shoe shopping extravaganza continues, and now I've got my eye on these. I need heels and flats to wear to work. I want them all, but clearly cannot. Help!

Am absolutely loving the multi-colored, multi-textured straps on these flat gladiators.

The wood heel and neutral tones on this heel would be perfect with nearly everything.

These studded beauties are so rock-n-roll chic, and that cork platform looks comfy.

How cute would these fringed-flats be with a little dress? They also come in orange.

Snake-skin and dark wood look so refined, yet neutral.

Victorian Grandness!

I seethe with jealousy and adoration over this amazing Boston brownstone converted into a tiny apartment and featured in Apartment Therapy's Small Cool contest. I love the dark walls, high ceilings, grand architectural details and the perfect use of old/new/creepy/pretty. If I lived here, I'd never move.

Also, who will win Small Cool?! I'm dying to know!

Mociun!

Oh, how I long to be a Mociun girl.

New!

Yesterday, two new shoes! I guess I really like canvas n' cork.

I'm still on the look-out for more.
Perhaps leather n' wood next...

Oak!

How can it be that when I go to Oak I want nothing, but when I go to their website I want everything?
Must be the action shots.
